David Leask, originally from the Scottish lowlands has spent the last many years building a spiritual and artistic bridge between the powerful influences of his birthplace and the fresh possibilties of his new home in Canada. With uncanny poignancy, his songwriting truly resonates in the hearts, minds and souls of his loyal following. In the early 90's Leask picked up his first songwriting award from SOCAN and The Songwriter's Association of Canada. Shari Ulrich, S.A.C. vice-president commented, "Dave was such a rare treat to discover - one of those genuine talents with a truly natural connection between his guitar, his voice and his lyrics - a rare original." David's debut CD, "100 Camels", was produced by Sam Reid of Glass Tiger fame.l This disc garnered rave reviews and received extensive airplay across Canada. The Toronto Star praised Leask for his "compellingly honest baring of the soul", while RPM Weekly declared it a "folklorist's dream". On his second CD, "Ancestors Eyes", Leask looks to the manz and varied people in his own life who've shaped who and where he is today. Leask's experiences and insights are interwoven throughout his words and melodies in a penetrating mix of adult pop and sharp-edged folk. In theatres across the country David has played alongside srtists such as Melanie Doane, Moxy Fruvous, Amy Sky, Natalie McMaster, The Barra MacNeils and many more. David hails from the Toronto area these days and plays in a variety of venues. He is a real talent and well worth making a trek out to see and listen to. David also makes himself available for house concerts.
